Denzel Washington criticized American media after he was the victim of a fake news story.

Washington, a veteran and highly popular actor and winner of multiple Academy Awards, was reported by many outlets to have ended his support for Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton in the run up to the 2016 Presidential Election. Many of the reports went on to claim that he had switched his support over to winning presidential candidate of the Republican party, Donald Trump. Thousands of people shared the story on social media before the rumors of the switch in allegiance from Washington were refuted and the stories were removed. Washington is now premiering and promoting his new movie,Fences, which is an adaption of an August Wilson play of the same name. The film also stars veteran stage and Hollywood actress, Viola Davis. As Washington arrived in Washington, DC on Tuesday, mainstream media flocked to the premiere of the film, which is receiving early Oscar attention. Washington, who directed and starred in the film, took the opportunity to take the media to task.

"If you don't read the newspaper, you're uninformed. If you do read it, you're misinformed," said Washington at the screening at the Smithsonian's Museum of African American History and Culture."In our society, now it's just first who cares, get it out there. We don't care who it hurts. We don't care who we destroy. We don't care if it's true. Just say it, sell it. Anything you practice you'll get good at including BS.
